Editing: The Re-shoot & Re-Edit: 2nd Part

2nd Part to the Re-Shooting & Re-Edting blog

* This is the safety precautions for the broken glass. It was put in two rubbish bags and tightly secured.

During this time of COVID-19 the thoughts of re-shoot and re-editing are on the table. I've used my phone as a backup camera for the footage for the re-shoot. However, there is a chance that the re-editing team might have a hard time with the footage thus far. We can't push back the deadline of when the project is due so I made a bold move to use a different technology. When I filmed I made sure to be careful and wore long socks to keep my legs and feet from the glass. The glass was also dropped from a low footage so that the sards couldn't go to far. After I bagged the glass twice and tightly secured the top. The other people in my group were kept inform of this before-hand and I've sent a copy of it to each of them. They are welcome to use and edit the film as much as they can with the time we have left. This long process; gathering ideas, acting on our ideas, gathering supplies, filming, editing, ect... showed me that this business cannot only be just fun but can teach you to manage your time and think of innovative ways to continue a project once you have commited to it.
The Re-editing will happen but not from my end. I've given the footage over to my group mates and they will be able to incorporate it into the film. This is if they believe it fits the feelings we are trying to produce. If not then that is how it will go, I trust my group mates in making that decision. I will stick to my rolls and strengthen them through my work. I have been trying to figure out how to properly fim the next part in the filming process, my reflection piece. However, with the COVID-19 virus and the lack of not only human interaction through social distancing but, by a big difference with the distance in location of my school to me, compared to my other groupmates, will make it hard to film. I will look into apps on my phone that are allowed to edit my videos. I will also try to share this with my group mates. I will also try to aid my group through this new age of the internet.

Editing: Re-Editing

Re-Editing

My group-mates are editing the movie. During this time they are busy figuring out how to properly do everything due to the lack of resources we can use. The editing of the movie had to be transferred to another software site. This transfer made it hard on the editors but we as a group are trying to figure it out to meet our deadline. At this time not much can be done. The school is on lockdown and is getting thoroughly cleaned. The computers we used are no longer available. I will we sending all of the Re-shooting film to them by email. I will try my best to keep my group-mates informed and prepared. I have been informing my group about the recent matters concerning the corona virus and how it regards the movie.
My groupmate has found the right music for our movie through Mixkit.co. This site offers free music for projects. This site will be used to add the right music for our film. The other editors will converse on the matter. The music will be chosen to fit the theme of the movie. I will listen to the music when the film is fully edited. I believe they are putting in the music last to fully complete the movie. I'm not one-hundred percent sure however and could be wrong. The virus has limited us to what and how we can work. The lack of communication is hard but my group and I are prepared to try our best to meet the requirements.

Re-shooting

This is regarding the re-shooting of the scenes in the movie. This is for the scenes that we couldn't do well or that were not fit for the feeling of the movie at the time. However, due to the coronavirus the ability to get a camera isnt there. I may have to find another option if one is available for me to use. At the moment the availability to gather supplies for filming is slim to none. The stores are mostly sold out of mostly everything that could have been used to film. I have some of the supplies to do the scenes with the plates and the glasses. The camera is a different problem. The lack of availability to go to the school to rent the proper ones isnt a option. My family doesn't have a camera to use and i'm not sure if i'm allowed to use the phone I have.
These past few days i've tried to think of ways to get one but all of them involve interaction that isn't allowed at the moment. My group is split all over and none of us live remotely close to one another. We usually meet up at a specific place but none of those places are an option now. I've gotten messages regarding the class and the teachers have been really helpful informing us on what's going on. I live around one hour from my school and my group mates, so the communication we have is strictly by phone. Schools and big businesses are doing deep cleanings so to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This has been going on for a few days. Being stuck at home has however, allowed us to study up on our movies and tv shows.

*one of the dramas

In most American TV dramas there is always a happy-ending, this and the main couple always has one big fight they get through in order to be happy. For other dramas like Korean dramas, the main couple doesn't have to get together. Instead the main character goes and finds a way to be happy and or improve themselves in-order to be happy, and thus get to have a happy-ending. Or the character doesn't get to have a happy ending with another person and instead something happens and they end up alone, but the ending is the same, they get to have a happy-ending.

Editing: The Plan Moving Forward

The Plan Moving Forward
*Washing hands is the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19

For the time being, planning is being spent currently at my house talking to my group through text. I have been contacting the group and informing them on what's going on with the class and the filming process. This will be a moderately short blog that goes with the previous one. We needed to meet up so we can figure out how the film will look at the end. However, this will need to happen sooner or later, or the next plan is to email the finished product and add stuff later. The plans will change as the information from the government is announced. The lack of communication is not only hard on us but the whole industry. The inability to see people directly correlates to filming. We can't film with no people. However we can't film with the treat of the virus harming the actors.
We need to be ready to film when the quarantine is over. The online world is now very active and so are movie and tv show streaming sites. At this time more people are at home working or with nothing to do. This means more people have the ability to be noticed. The small companies making movies or the streaming sites own movie are gathering more and more attention. Movies and TV shows will gain more attention and thus gaining more competition as well. This will make the companies aim for more and production will want to begin sooner rather later. The directors need to be aware of the occuring threat still. Washing hands is the number one way to prevent the spread  of COVID-19. The incubation period is 14 days so containing it is very hard. That's why we are being quarantined for the time being.

Updates to Filming
*Remember to wash your hands to prevent the spread of COVID-19

*This is the URL for the information in this blog

Due to the COVID-19 virus our filming and interactions for the finishing productions for our film has been stopped. This was decided by our state and country to do a mass-quarantine, this means two weeks in isolation to protect ourselves, and others. This will hopefully contain the virus to a specific location to protect the rest of the people. Not only has our movie production stopped but also many other movie productions has been stopped. This virus is transmitted through the air and touch, making it very dangerous to the people we are filming, and the camera crew. The production of several movies not including ours have also been stopped this includes the following...
-The Live Action Little Mermaid
- Stranger Things
- Grace and Frankie
- Sex/Life
- Ryan Murphy's The Prom
And many more have stopped production.

For the COVID-19 virus this has been dangerous to only older adults, however, the closing of the schools prevent the younger kids from transmitting the virus to their parents. For our movie we will continue to edit the movie to meet our deadline. The filming of the scenes that need correcting have been mostly ready. However, it will be filmed with a different camera. This also will be filmed with only one person. I will have no help due to the self quarantine and the lack of availability to meet up with the rest of the people in my group.

Editing: Getting ready to film

Getting ready to film

* This may or may not be the props used in the film

We are going to film the re-shooting of the scenes that need to be fix. This includes the glass breaking scenes, but not the picture frame scene. The job I will be doing is the gathering of the supplies for the filming process. The health risks are minimal and I will be carefull with a first aid kit on hand and trashbags to clean the glass. The glass should be broken in bigger pieces due to the fall not being that high. I will make sure that this shooting process is safe. The glass may or may not be colored depending on what my group mate says it should look like. The filming process will go as she directs me too. This is so i can deliver the aesthetic she wants. This is to fit the theme of the movie.
The glasses will be wine glasses and or other glasses that my group member will instruct me to break. I will also break plates that she thinks will suit the theme of the movie. This will be safe, safety is number one. This will be all done outside and will be in a safe location. I will drop the plates and glasses from an estimated height of half a meter to one meter. I will have trash bags around the area site. This is so no loss glass gets anywhere. After shooting I will clean up and hose down the area. The props will only be the plates and the glasses. I will use the tripod to stabilize the camera and will slowly drop the items so the camera can get a good quality shot. I will only have three tries each so the time of the reshoot should only take 30 to 35 minutes.

Editing: Schedule for the re-shoot

Schedule for the re-shoot

This is the schedule I made for the Re-shooting of the parts of the movie we need to fix. We will reshoot on a specified day that we as a group agree on. This is so we have time to edit and get everything to how we like it. We need to fill simple parts to the movie. We need to reshoot the glass scenes due to then not coming out properly. The feelings from the film we took wasn't the feelings we wanted in the piece. We need to get the glasses from a thrift store so that we aren't damaging ones that our family will use. To make sure this is a safe film we will have a plastic bag under it and ready to pick up the pieces. This will also be a controlled environment. The glass will be thrown away properly.
The reason why we had the re-shoot so late is due conflicting schedules. However we made a deal to split the workload so we can have a successful film. We split these in sections that fit our skill set. The pre editing is done by someone who wants to learn. I am sticking to the costumes and the props. I also filmed a majority of it. The costumes but for this won't be needed. The only thing I need to do for this re-shoot is gather the right props. If things don't go to plan I may or may not be the one to re-shoot the minor takes. This may or may not take place in the morning or night.

Editing: Peer Editing

Peer Editing

Today we Peer Edited the other people in our class movies. The persons movie we watched did a good job at the lighting. The natural light gave a calm feeling to the whole film. The sound was a little off however. With the dialogue being very short it was hard to hear. The wind in the back wasn't a big issue. The music was calm and fit nicely into his movie. The diegetic sounds fit nicely with the non-diegetic sounds. The cuts for when he skates adds a good action match. The outside also had good lighting.
The zoom into the picture gave a background to the character. I'm not sure if this is relevant but he wore a dog-tag so his dad or him might have been in the military. I can't see the camera. The different shoots add a nice flow to the movie. The track shots are cool. The flow of the movie is slow and the music add a cool suspense that fades in the end. The titles fade out and in depending on the scene. The fade from the sky to the over-the-shoulder shot was smooth. The one thing I liked about the movie was the natural lighting. The one thing he could fix would be the sound quality with the speech and the outside noise.

Editing: Editing the Movie

Editing the Movie

So my group started editing the movie. We wanted to have a rough draft of how the film will look. Andrea started doing the rough draft. We are using the PinnacleStudios to edit. This editing software is really slow so the process is taking longer than we had initially hoped. The amount of time to download all of the clips and takes into the software took around thirty minutes alone. To edit the clips we had to drag and drop it into the slots we wanted to have it in. We left time were we thought the clips needed more film and where we needed to film over. This made the draft of the movie run a little longer than the time allowed. However once we do the finishing shooting blogs and other editing blogs it will flow nicely.
The overall film now is a little choppy but can be easily fixed. The music and sound haven’t been added in. This was to make the process easier to edit. The software we are using gets easily annoyed and crashes if we over run it. The computers are also quite slow but with the screens being touch screen we can drag and drop easily. The edits we are using are fast pass in some areas and need to be cut in others. The timing of the different clips will be used to set the pause of the film. The ending product will be better than the draft we have now. We will add the titles now but correct the font later.
